Before and After
 The
day our son Martin died has become the marker in our life.
Everything is now measured as "before and after."
I started a major project by
sorting all the family pictures, to put them in order, to
properly date them. The pictures before show a happy family;
two sons in nearly all of them, laughing, happy, growing up
from the baby stage to teenagers, with the pictures forming
a trail.
If I could only go back into
time to savour our happiness again. But looking at the pictures
brought a flood of happy memories, which I can still savour.
Pictures bring back long forgotten funny and loving sayings,
happenings, which I am starting to write down next to the
pictures. Maybe this will become a family history for our
surviving son and will help him to remember his brother as
part of his life.
Pictures of us after the death
of our son are few. These pictures show a family of three
instead of four and all of us with sadness and pain. We do
try to stay away from those pictures and instead focus on
the pictures of before, which never fail to make us smile
somehow.
